Directions to the Dublin Art School at the Lantern Centre:

from Wexford St (travelling out of town):

It would be advisable to turn up to classes 15 minutes before your first lesson, as The Lantern Centre does not have regular staff to guide you; also, please try to bring a mobile phone with you in case you can’t find your way and you need to call me. If you get can’t find you way on the day, call me on my mobile (087 1499615). 

If you are on foot (or being dropped off at the Art School): 

Once you turn off of Harrington St. onto Synge St, the Lantern Centre is on the grounds of the church to your left. Continue down Synge St. past the church and a grey stone building: you will see a sea-green-coloured door (number 15) on ground level, and you can enter the building by that entrance. If the door is not open, ring the bell, and it this still doesn’t get you in, call or text me on my mobile and I will come down to open the door. Go through the door and up the marble staircase to the top, then turn left to find us!

If you are driving to the Art School and wish to avail of Free Parking (Weekends Only):

follow the instructions above and then drive from Harrington Street down Synge St, past the Lantern Centre (large stone building on the left after the church) until you reach a large gate on your left, that’s between the Lantern Centre and another building. Turn through the gate to avail of the free parking: continue straight on through the first yard to the school yard beyond, where you can park. Please do not park in the first yard (as opposed to the school yard) as it is not permitted at any time. Walk back out of the large gate onto Synge St and turn right – you will see the blue-green door of number 15 on your right up a little way. If the door is not open, ring the bell, and it this still doesn’t get you in, call or text me on my mobile and I will come down to open the door.Go through the door and up the marble staircase to the top, then turn left to find us!

Buses and Luas to the Art School: 

The Harcourt Luas stop is the closest one to the centre – it’s about 6 minutes walk from the Latern Centre. Alternatively you can take a 16 Bus from Cathedral St. (just off of O’ Connell St.), and get off on Harrington Street – Synge St. is a turn off of Harrington St – this bus runs from Cathedral St. onto Dame St. and then up Georges St, Camden St and Wexford St before turning onto Harrington St.

Adult Art Classes at Visions:

Adult Art Classes, Workshops and Events:

Visions School of Art is singular as a host of adult art classes, because what is studied and taught at Visions is book-ended by (a) a concern for the honing of craft and skill in any drawing and painting media, and (b) an intention to explore the student’s creative process, including what is meant by the Imagination. These concerns mean that students can attend the school to simply learn or improve a skill, participate in a workshop or adult art classes aimed at opening up the student’s individuality and resourcefulness as an artist, or both at once. 

Adult art classes include various drawing and painting courses, as well as a Portfolio preparation course (for students intending on entering 3rd Level Art education), Creativity Workshops, Workshops on accessing Imagination, &c. All classes are currently held in the West Court Room at The Lantern Centre on Synge Street in Dublin 8.

Adult Art Classes Tutored by the Founder:

Visions School of Art was founded by Andrew Carroll BA MA Visual Arts Practice (both at IADT Dun Laoghaire). Andrew is also the sole tutor of adult art classes at the school; he himself specialises in Drawing and Painting within his own Visual Art practice. He has exhibited his paintings at numerous exhibitions, including the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition, which is selected by members of the RHA from an open submission. Andrew founded Visions School of Art in 2013.

As well as being a professional Visual Artist, Andrew has a deep interest in teaching, and has previously worked for the City of Dublin VEC teaching Painting and Drawing in both adult art classes (adult education) and in rehabilitation programmes; he has also worked as an art teacher at Trinity Arts Workshop (Trinity College), and as an Art workshop facilitator for teenagers for many art schools, institutions and bodies, including The Emerald Cultural Institute, Sky Arts (TV Channel) and The Irish Prisons Service.
